Such stains include blood, chocolate, coffee, mustard, tea, vomit, and wine. For these stains, mix 1 tablespoon of ammonia with 1 cup of water (except if you are cleaning wool or wool-blend carpet when you want to mix mild detergent and water). If this cleaning solution fails, mix one part chlorine bleach with five parts water. Always test an inconspicuous area of carpet to make sure the carpet isn’t damaged – chlorine bleach solutions should only be used on solution-dyed carpets.
